I’m excited to see lots of faces in the community, and new, and old customers. Without them, our dream wouldn’t have been able to come true. “From myself and everyone that’s been here, we’d just like to thank everyone. People come and don’t realize that we’ve been here for more than 50 years,” she says.Īt the end of the day, Wong says she and her family will always be grateful for the support of the community. Lots of people still don’t know we’re here because we’re close to the Farmers Market but we don’t have any bright signage. “I saw that! It shocked me at first because I came across it on Facebook. The community of Grande Prairie has planned a five-day event, starting on April 25th to support the restaurant as much as possible. It’s amazing to think about all the changes and the events that have been celebrated right here,” she says.
We had customers come in the other day and tell us they got engaged here and they’re probably in their seventies.
“It’s crazy to see how many people have reached out to tell us that they celebrated their wedding, birthday, or other events at Golden Star. The inside of the shipping container that they use as a kitchen had to be completely gutted and restored with new kitchen equipment.īut aside from that, everything about the restaurant and its beloved menu of slow-cooked and grilled wings, signature homemade sauces and local tap beer list will stay the same.Wong says it’s a little overwhelming to think about how many people from the community have supported the restaurant since it first opened in 1969. The food truck-turned-restaurant is finally reopening on March 25, 15 months after a kitchen fire shut it down in December 2021. Kings of Wings is returning to its throne in Wheat Ridge.
